The purpose of a light bulb is to shine light, brightening up an area, getting rid of the darkness that surrounds it. Sure sometimes the light bulb hangs out in the darkness, but when it does, it’s not fulfilling its purpose, what it was made for.
You know, the same can be said for a Christian. Our purpose as Christians is to shine light, brighten up the world, & get rid of the darkness that surrounds us. When we hang out in darkness, we, just like a light bulb, are not fulfilling our purpose.
How brightly do you shine? At various times in our lives our dimmer switch may be adjusted, but our goal should be to not be ashamed and keep it bright. We can do that by encouraging one another and by being faithful in our study of God’s word. For God’s word equips us for every good work.
The theme of our Fall Retreat this year is, Shine: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (Romans 12:2). Don’t be fooled, if we act, make excuses, & think like the world...we are the world and the light is not in us.
Shine, make them wonder what you got, make them wish that they were not, on the outside looking in. Shine, let it shine before all men, let them see good works and then, let them glorify the Lord. (Lyrics from the song Shine, Newsboys)
