Don’t Fool Yourself: Be a Doer

Sometimes you’ll hear someone say, “I’m just playing the Devil’s advocate”, to which I’m that person who usually says...he really doesn’t need anymore, he’s got enough. Sure, I understand it’s just a phrase, but seriously, he doesn’t need your help. Satan’s working hard everyday to deceive you, and he has way too many people willing to help him. Don’t help him out by deceiving yourself. James says it well in the first chapter of his letter...

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.
— James 1:22-25

Hearing a good sermon, walking out, and forgetting, doesn’t help you grow. You’ve just looked in a mirror, walked away, and forgotten what you looked like. Hearing followed by doing, applying, & practicing is what brings blessings to your life and helps you grow as a follower of Christ. Believers deceive themselves with time spent perceiving/justifying they are spiritual when in reality they are shallow. Don’t be a Christian who marks their bible, but doesn’t allow their Bible to mark them!

When you look into the mirror of God’s word, what do you see? More importantly, what are you going to DO! #GloryToGod
